Fashion & Textiles:
The 4 year course in Fashion and Textile Design is the only specialist fashion design degree course available in New South Wales. The course has an established record of placing graduates within the fashion and textiles industries, both nationally and internationally. It places a great emphasis on encouraging individual creativity while giving students a complete understanding of the design process, from research and concept development through to final product. Students are encouraged to explore new areas for research and to use that research to develop individual creative ideas for design. The emphasis is on the development of a personal style and design philosophy.
Students are taught by experienced, practicing designers and creators, with each subject encouraging students to develop their own specialist skills. The course goes to great lengths to anticipate fashion trends and to understand the ever-widening variety of roles for designers within industry. Guest speakers from public relations, journalism and business practice, as well as leading practicing designers introduce contemporary issues that have an influence on the industry.
The program has excellent links with the fashion and textile industry and offers students the opportunity to work with many specialists. Students are encouraged to enter national and international scholarships, awards and design competitions, such as the Lancôme Colour Design Awards which is exclusive to UTS students.
