The Capsule is a prototype subscription box service telling historical stories outside of the museum space. It extends the museum experience into people’s homes, into their everyday lives and their communities. The Capsule aims to be a priming experience either for audiences that are keen to enter museums and explore different museum like experiences, or for audiences that don’t necessarily intend to visit museum spaces. In either case, the museum comes to them by making the first move in the form of The Capsule delivered to their door. The project also has the flexibility to change with future needs.
This Capsule tells the story of the fateful Manhattan Project, the World War II project to develop the atomic bomb, and the decision making process involved in the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima with all the consequences of this action. Utilising transmedia methods, the box places the audience within immersive experiences, letting them become a character in history, to make the important decisions of history and step into the world immediately after the detonation of the bomb in their own city.
